You know I love an Afternoon Tea.
So it was with great delight that I accepted the invitation to review the one on offer at Gallery Mess - the food offering attached to the Saatchi Gallery on King's Road.
So, this is not the kind of huge tea I've been used to (and perhaps slightly spoiled by). Each layer is not a meal in itself and you won't leave the table groaning under the weight of your overstuffed belly. For two people, you get two egg salad little sub rolls, topped with quail egg, two little smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels, two cucumber finger sarnies and two squares of elderflower and camomile jelly. On the top there were two little tea cakes, two squares of sponge and two Wimbledon-themed macarons!
There were, of course, two freshly baked fruit scones with cream and jam as well.
Warm scones - always a winner.
I had a very nice Earl Grey and we were also treated to a glass of champagne.
It was all delicious and while it doesn't seem like a lot compared to the huge teas you can find elsewhere, let me tell you, it was more than filling! We both felt nicely full afterwards, always a bonus when you're a glutton like me. And, at the incredibly bargain price of £22 for two - so only £11 each - it is kind of a perfect little afternoon tea experience for those who want the glamour and luxury, without the large cost.
Thank you to Rhubarb for having me - it was truly delightful!
Have a peruse of Gallery Mess's whole menu on the Saatchi Gallery site!
